For many reasons I’m selling the Nova. It’s rarely driven, and it’ll never be “mine” and the obvious benefit of extra financial liquidity for my mom. Yes, it got tons of compliments but it always put me in a weird position emotionally. The guilt of inheritance I guess. I always want to correct the compliment-er that my dad did most of the work, which would be a downer. Not that it’s not a cool thing to drive, it’s just.... yeah. Plus if I get a cut I can shop for junkers on CL then spend all the money on bills. FUN!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I expect a worse time on CL than the Murano. I think I’ll get every redneck within 200 miles offering their busted Sierra 1500 and a can of chew for this.

Good luck! A60 replacement?

It can be tough letting go of something like this. There is obviously a lot of emotions tied up in it. Good luck with the sale. Your price seems quite reasonable too. I remember one of my best trade offers on Craigslist. It was half of my asking price plus a breakfast taco.

If anything it’ll be a Lotus restoration focused slushfund. unless I find a tantalizing flip.

It was tough to price. There’s a few rust buckets for pennies and there’s 502/tubbed/monsters for more and then there’s always immaculate investment grade ones priced accordingly. I personally don’t see how prettier arm rests add $20,000 of value to a car that’s ultimately a chariot for a big engine ;) Not that going outside the box isn’t a worthy endeavor. A Z/26 Nova would be a sweet car. (high comp 302, suspension build etc. like the original Z/28)

The prospective buyers for the Murano did too. I hope that honesty attracts honest buyers this time too. We’ll see.

A few things, if I may:

1.) It has an 8.5" 10 bolt, mention that. People will think it’s the “10 bolt” the 4th gen fbody guys bitch about. No, I am not joking.

Kinja'd!!!

2.) Gear ratio?

3.) Stock 200-4R or modified? Converter? Lockup?

4.) I know you are being honest but don’t talk the paint down so hard. Hell, for that matter the entire build. People will lowball you even harder. It’s not illegal to say you like driving it, it’s fun, it sounds good, etc.

5.) Detail the car, engine bay included. $100 of underhood work will go a long way towards getting top dollar.

Kinja'd!!! LongbowMkII > crowmolly

Kinja'd!!!0

1) good to know

2) Don’t know the final ratio

3) modified, but I don’t know how. lock up converter, dont know the stall.

4) Lowballs are easily ignored. It’s not a pressing sale, I’d rather be upfront than deal with people coming to see it and whine while nitpicking it.

5) I’m not asking top dollar. A good detailing is a good idea, but then you can use the same logic on the interior. $500 and some tidying would make it great too, but I’m not all that interested in spending that money and effort. Then the paint issues would become more glaring.... and on and on.

Second this. This will be a really nice, fun car for the next owner. It looks great from at least a few feet away, and that motor in that light body will put a smile on anyone's face. Looks to me like either a great driver as is - I really like the way it was done, including the wheels, hood, and (I think?) a bit of de-chroming.

I hate selling cars. Not just because I like to keep cars (I’ve got to fight the tendancy to be a hoarder when it comes to cars), but because I’m the type that’ll be honest about the flaws. I’ve noticed that when you do that, it’s not the low-ballers that irritate me (Hey, I respect someone trying to get the best deal they can). It’s the assholes that like to make snarky comments about the vehicle. If you see the ad and the car isn’t what you’re looking for, MOVE ON. E-mailing me or commenting on the Facebook ad when you’re just trying to criticize the car is a waste of both of our times. Plus, you’ll only get to do it once because I know how to use a block feature quicker than a woman with her best male friend who’s trying to get laid.

I’d call it a realistic asking price, not a crack price.

But there’s rust...

Looks like a very nice driver. I could see paying 8 or 9 for it.

I’m honestly not emotionally attached to it. The Impala will be the tough one of it comes to that.

“$10,000 for a unknown mileage caprice with rust. FUTURE CLASSIC. NO LOWBALLS I KNOW WHAT I GOT.

A/c needs recharged.”

Looks like a sweet car. Perhaps go read bring-a-trailer ads to learn the euphamisms for things like a worn interior. This ad seems to be very negative and nit picky about the car instead of getting the buyer excited to buy.

For instance, instead of

Oh yeah, I agree with Crowmolly. If you’re trying to sell a classic for big money, detail the thing. I mean, you’re trying to get 11,000 but won’t put in 200-300 for a detail? At least go buy some degreaser and clean up the engine yourself.

I figured the same thing with the Apollo, but it really wasn’t too bad. It’s a cool looking car, that’s all that matters.

Kinja'd!!!1

I think that’s a reasonable asking price. I’d expect you’ll get close to $10k for it. It’s a great looking driver, and to my mind that’s the best kind of classic to own. I wish I could afford it.

I’m going to have to keyword soup the hell out of the ad.

I imagine Nova was somewhere in your Apollo ad.

Oh wow... I’m going through the same sort of thing with mine. I resisted CL for about 2 months because I didn’t want to deal with idiots, and it’s been up there for almost 3. To date I’ve received 2 calls and 4 emails. The calls sounded like serious interest, but never followed up; all but 1 of the emails were asking if I’d trade for a Harley. The lone outlier email was a wannabe Nigerian scammer. I’m actually kinda disappointed; my wife’s old Impala got more interest in this!

My CL ad for reference: http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/5669410601…

I’ll leave it up for a couple weeks then if there’s not serious interest. Then double down and put some sweat equity into it before putting it on eBay I guess.

That’s a fair asking price. I think you’ll end up closer to $10k, though a bit of detail work would probably help that. Man, it’s been awhile since I’ve experienced a stock-ish Nova.

Is it a disc/drum car? It appears to have a Corvette m/c, so I’m assuming so, but it’s not mentioned in the ad (and I can’t tell by the side profile photo).

Kinja'd!!! LongbowMkII > I hoon, therefore I am

Yup! My ‘71 was a 307 car with 4-wheel drums when I got it. Probably not a great idea for a new driver, but something-something small town.

I’ve thought about the eBay route too, it just sucks that they demand 10% of the selling price. One of my coworkers suggested Hemmings, their ads start at something like $100. Still steep, but not 10% of the sale - trouble is that it’s up front, not after the sale.

my first car was a 72 nova. 350/4spd. went through a lot of tires. if this was a 4 speed car, i might be interested, as i’m closing in on my midlife crisis and have been secretly lusting over all the cars i had back in my youth. Anyone have leads on a 78 Trans Am 400/4 spd and a 65 Malibu SS (clone) 396/TH400?
